| Following to the report of Iran Customs Statistic Office, Iran’s foreign trade performance (Export – Import) in the year past is as following: According to table (1), during the mentioned period more than 13098.4 thousand tons of different commodities worthy of 35039.9 billion Rials equal to 4422 million dollars were exported which demonstrates a drop of 13.8 percent in weight but an increase of 12.9 percent in value as compared to the statistics of the same period of last year. Considering 64 million dollars of exported items through luggage-trade and 344.2 million dollars of exported goods via border markets, the exports of country reached 4830.2 million dollars showing an increase of 16.2 percent in comparison with the same period of the pervious year. During the above mentioned period, the drop occurred in weight of non-oil exports mostly related to the drop in weight of exported gases, ironware and steel, other mineral products, other construction materials, cement and unprocessed building stone, while the growth took place in the value of non- oil exports of the country mostly connected with the increase in the value of exported pistachio and pistachio kernel, ironware and steel, other industrial goods, kinds of tar, garment, other petrochemical products, formed aluminum and methanol. The average price of one kilo of exported items has been 34 cents showing a growth of 30.7 percent in comparison with the same period of the year2001- 2002. According to the figures of table (1) , during the mentioned period, 10 main exported items formed 36.4 percent of total weight and 53.8 percent of total value of the country's exports. The average price of one kilo of main exported items was 50 cents, showing a growth of 21.9 percent compared to the figures of the same period of last year. The average price of one kilo of carpet was 25.4 dollars, which has been the highest value among the other items with a growth of 3.2 percent in comparison with the figures of the previous year. Based on the latest statistics obtained from the country's customs houses, the price of one meter of hand-woven carpet was about 87.3 dollars in March 2002 - March 2003.
During the mentioned period of the year 2002 - 2003, among the main exported items, the export of other industrial goods faced a drop and the price of other items encountered a growth in comparison with the same period of last year. The highest price growth among the export items related to ironware and steel with 100 percent. During the above mentioned period, the export of industrial and petrochemical products reached 9991.3 thousand tons with the value of 2695.6 million dollars, agricultural products 942.8 thousand tons with the value of 987.7 million dollars, mineral goods 2120.6 thousand tons with the value of 174.6 million dollars and handicrafts 43.5 thousand tons with the value of 563.9 million dollars. In March 2002- March 2003, the export of mentioned commodities show changes of 14, 15.3, 24.5 and 1.3 percents in value respectively, in comparison with the same figures of the previous year. During the mentioned period, the share of industrial and petrochemical products, agricultural, mineral and handicrafts was 61, 22.3, 3.9 and 12.8 percent of the total value of the country's exports respectively. According to the statistics of table (2), a comparison between the current and expected figures of the third plan demonstrates that 83.6 percent of the prediction was fulfilled and with regard to luggage trade and border markets this figure reached 91.3 percent. In February - March, the percent of fulfillment for non-oil export was 64.8 percent in comparison with the predicted figures of the third plan. Based on the figures of table (2) during the mentioned period, the fulfillment percent of performance of non-oil exports for agricultural products was 85.7 percent, industrial, mineral and petrochemical products 88.8 percent, carpets and handicrafts 69.1 percent. In February - March, these figures reached 66.3, 59.7 and 44.6 percent respectively.
According to table (3), around 24076.6 thousand tons of goods worthy of 21180.1 million dollars were imported as of March 2002 to March 2003. These figures show a decrease of 8.9 percent in weight but an increase of 18.1 percent in value as compared to the statistics of the same period of 2001-2002. The average price of one kilo of imported items was 88 cents showing a growth of 29.4 percent in comparison with the same period of last year. Based on table (3) 10 main imported items of the country during the said period formed 40.3 percent of total weight and 45.6 percent of total value of the imports. The average price of one kilo of medical products reached 60.6 dollars, which was also the highest value among the other imported items. During the mentioned period of 2002-2003, the imported wheat with decrease of 62.4 percent in weight and 58 percent in value had the highest drop, in weight and value among the other imported items. A deep concentration on the price of main imported items demonstrates that the prices of medicine, wheat, paper, cardboard and ironware have been increased while the prices of other import items have been decreased.
According to table (4) The figures demonstrate a fulfillment of 120.1 percent. In February - March 2003 the percent of fulfillment for imports in comparison with the predicted figures of the third plan was 102 percent.
During the above mentioned period, three customs gates that had the largest share of non-oil exports were Bandar Imam Khomeini Customs with 22 percent, Shahid Rajaie Customs with 18.9 percent and Gharb Customs with 10.4 percent. As for imports, the country's major ports of entry have been Shahid Rajaie Customs with 48 percent, Mehrabad Customs with 16.3 percent and Bandar Imam Khomeini Customs with 10.1 percent.
